Listing Appeal Pack · Guide

My Google Business Profile was suspended for deceptive content. What does that mean and what should I fix?

A deceptive content suspension usually means something on the profile does not match the real business: a name with added keywords, an address customers cannot visit, a website that names a different company, or details that look copied from another listing. Compare every field on the profile with your signage, your website and your registration documents, correct each mismatch, and only then appeal with proof of the real business.

How to find and fix the likely cause yourself

  1. Compare the name with your signage. The profile name should be the name on your storefront, website and stationery. Remove any added city names, service words or slogans, because keywords in the business name are against the guidelines.
  2. Check the address is a real location. PO boxes and remote mailboxes are not allowed, and a rented mailing address you do not operate from (a virtual office) is not eligible. If customers do not visit you, set the profile as a service-area business and hide the address.
  3. Make the website match the profile. Open the website linked on the profile and check that it shows the same business name, address or service area and phone number. A link to a directory page, a parent company or another business is a common mismatch.
  4. Review the category and description. Choose the category that describes what the business is, not every service it offers. Remove claims in the description that you cannot back up, such as awards, licences or locations you do not have.
  5. Look for duplicate or related profiles. Search for your business name and phone number to see whether a second profile exists for the same location. Note any duplicates in your appeal rather than leaving them unexplained.
  6. Gather proof before you appeal. Collect documents that show the name and address together, such as a business licence, a utility bill or a tax registration, plus photos of exterior signage. Use only genuine documents in your own name.
  7. Appeal only after every fix is live. Submit the appeal from the Business Profile appeals tool once the profile and website are corrected. Describe briefly what you changed and attach the proof you gathered. Google accepts one appeal per decision, so send it only when everything is in place. What not to do

When a done-for-you pack helps

The pack helps when you have checked the obvious fields and still cannot see which detail triggered the suspension. For local businesses, we check the listing details and public website you send against the business representation guidelines, name the likely violation, give you an exact fix list and an evidence checklist, and draft the appeal text for you to review and submit yourself.

Questions

Does a deceptive content suspension mean Google thinks my business is fake?

Not necessarily. It usually means one or more details on the profile did not match what the reviewer could confirm, such as the name, address or website. A keyword in the name or a website that names a different business can be enough on its own. Fixing the mismatch and sending proof of the real business is the normal route.

Should I remove keywords from my business name before appealing?

Yes. The profile name should match the name customers see on your signage, website and documents. Added city names or service words in the name are against the guidelines, so remove them before you appeal. If your registered name genuinely includes a service word, send a document that shows it.

Can I just create a new profile instead of appealing?

We advise against it. A second profile for the same business and location counts as a duplicate under the guidelines and can make the situation worse. Fix the existing profile, gather proof of the real business, and appeal the suspension through the appeals tool instead.
