What does a Google Business Profile suspension for quality issues mean, and how do I fix it?

A quality issues suspension is a general notice that the profile does not meet the guidelines for representing a business, without naming the exact field. The usual causes are the same as other suspensions: keywords in the name, an ineligible address, a wrong category, or a website and phone that do not match. Audit each field against your real business, fix every gap, and appeal with documents that confirm the name and address.

A field-by-field audit you can do now

  1. Reason. Open the Business Profile appeals tool, which shows the reason for the decision and a link to the policy. Start your audit with that policy.
  2. Name. Match the name exactly to your signage and registration. Remove added keywords, locations, slogans or all-caps styling.
  3. Address or service area. Use the street address where you meet customers, with no PO box. If you serve customers at their location and they do not come to you, set a service area and hide the address.
  4. Category. Pick the primary category that describes the business as a whole. Remove secondary categories for services you do not offer.
  5. Phone and hours. Use a phone number under the business's direct control, a local number rather than a central call centre line where possible, and list the hours you are actually open.
  6. Website. Link a page that shows the same business name, address or service area and phone number. Avoid linking social profiles, directories or a parent brand's generic page if your own site exists.
  7. Photos and description. Use photos of your real premises, signage and work, and a description without links, prices for unrelated services or claims you cannot back up.
  8. Proof pack for the appeal. Collect a business licence, a utility bill or lease page showing the address, and exterior photos with signage. Keep file names clear so you can attach them quickly.

When a done-for-you pack helps

The pack helps when the notice gives no specific reason and you want a second check before you use your appeal. For local businesses, we check the listing details and public website you send against the business representation guidelines, diagnose the most likely violation with the guideline section, give you an exact fix list for name, address, category, hours and website, an evidence checklist and a drafted appeal to submit yourself.

Questions

Why does the notice not say which rule I broke?

Suspension emails are often general. The appeals tool shows the stated reason and a link to the policy, but not always the exact field, so audit the name, address, category, phone, hours and website. Fix every mismatch you find, not only the one you suspect, so the reviewer sees a profile that matches your real business.

Is a quality issues suspension different from a deceptive content suspension?

The wording differs, but the fixes overlap. Both usually come back to the profile not matching the guidelines for representing a business. Work through the same checks in each case: the name as on your signage, an eligible address or hidden service area, the right category, and a matching website and phone.

What documents help an appeal for a local business?

Documents that show your business name and address together are the most useful, such as a business licence, a tax or registration certificate, or a utility bill. Exterior photos showing permanent signage also help. Send only genuine records in the business's own name, and make sure they match what the profile now shows.
